
We built this basement heater around a 400V, 2500W halogen shortwave tube—300mm long, wrapped in a coated quartz envelope. The whole point? Pack a lot of heat into a small space, so you get fast, controllable warmth in the basement without overhauling your whole HVAC setup. Here’s the thing about running at 400V: it lets us push 2500W through that short 300mm tube. That concentration is what gives you the quick ramp-up and a focused thermal feel. It’s powerful, no doubt—and that power means you need good airflow and a solid ventilation plan. If the cooling and exhaust aren’t dialed in, the basement temp can climb fast. The halogen cycle keeps the quartz envelope cleaner and helps steady the filament temperature, so output stays consistent over time. The coating cuts glare and tames some of the radiant heat, so more of that warmth goes where you want it. And we wired it with an R7s connector—standard for double-ended quartz tubes—so it drops in clean and the terminals are easy to get to when it’s time for maintenance. In a basement, space is often tight and you want heat that turns on when you need it. This setup gives you that rapid response, simple mounting, and a small footprint. It’s not trying to be your whole-house heat. It’s for those cold corners, the work area, the spots where you want warmth on demand—without a complicated install.
