
How to Get the Heat Without the Blinding Light
Nobody wants to step out of a hot shower and feel like they’re staring directly into the sun. It’s a common problem with bathroom heaters—you want that instant warmth, but the glare can be brutal, especially if you’ve got kids or babies in the house.
Saving your eyes
Most basic infrared lamps blast out a harsh, bright white light. It’s distracting and, frankly, a bit much for a bathroom. To fix this, we use quartz glass with special coatings. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for your heater. We filter out those aggressive blue wavelengths and the blinding glare, but we let the infrared heat pass right through. You get the cozy feeling on your skin without the retinal stress. It’s a much softer experience.
The guts of the machine
Under the hood, these usually run on a halogen-filled quartz tube. We chose this because it heats up almost instantly. The halogen part is key—it stops the filament from wearing out too fast, so you aren’t replacing bulbs every few months. Whether it’s built into your mirror or mounted in the ceiling, these things put out a lot of power in a tiny space. That’s why the housing has to be heavy-duty; otherwise, you’d end up with warped plastic or a cracked mirror.
A few things to keep in mind
Here is the trade-off: those eye-saving coatings do block a tiny bit of the heat. Because of that, you might want to go with a slightly higher wattage or tweak the angle of the reflector to make sure the warmth actually hits you where you want it. And a quick tip on the install—give the fixture some breathing room. If the airflow is blocked, the socket can overheat and burn out way faster than it should. Just keep it clear and you’re good to go.
