
Keeping Your CNT Fabrication Actually Clean
If you’ve ever worked in a Class 100 cleanroom, you know the stress. One tiny speck of dust—something you can’t even see—and your entire batch of carbon nanotubes is trash. It’s frustrating. The real headache? Your heating elements. Most standard heaters are basically particle factories. They outgas, they flake, they corrode. They’re a liability you can’t afford. That’s why we stick with high-purity synthetic quartz infrared lamps.
Why Quartz Just Works
We use fused silica quartz because it handles the heat without falling apart. Metal-sheathed heaters tend to oxidize or shed little flakes of metal over time. You don’t want those drifting into your growth chamber. Quartz doesn’t do that. Plus, these lamps use shortwave IR radiation. Instead of wasting time heating up the air around your project, the heat goes straight into the substrate. It’s fast. Really fast. Your ramp-up time drops, and your thermal footprint stays small.
The Nitty-Gritty on Design
We seal these lamps tight. We don’t want any tungsten filament fragments escaping into your workspace, so we use high-grade seals that can handle the vacuum pressures you’re dealing with during synthesis. You can tweak the wattage and voltage to fit your specific power supply. Now, a quick heads-up: high-wattage density is great for keeping things compact, but that concentrated heat can be brutal on your mounts. Make sure your brackets are made of the same high-purity material. If they aren’t, the different materials will expand at different rates, and things will start to crack.
Getting Them Into Your Line
Setting these up is pretty painless. We designed them as drop-in replacements, so they should fit right into most industrial footprints without a fight. But here’s the catch: quartz is fragile. If your team isn’t careful during installation, a tiny hairline crack can kill the lamp the second you pull a vacuum. Tell your techs to use lint-free gloves. No exceptions. Even a little bit of skin oil left on the tube creates a hot spot, and that’s a one-way ticket to a premature failure.
