
Keeping the Rain Out of Your Outdoor Heaters
When you put a heater outside, you’re basically inviting two things to try and kill it: condensation and rain. It sounds obvious, but water and high-voltage heating elements are a nightmare pairing. That’s why we spend so much time obsessing over how our units are sealed.
Stopping the leaks
Water hitting a live heating element usually ends in one of two ways: a short circuit or a ruptured tube. Neither is great. To stop that, we built the chassis to act like a shield, pushing runoff away from the electrical guts. We use silicone gaskets and sealed cable entries to make sure moisture doesn’t sneak into the wiring. It keeps the terminals from rusting or burning out when the weather turns nasty.
The battle against fog
Ever notice how your mirror fogs up in the bathroom? The same thing happens to heaters. Cold, damp air hits the frame, and suddenly you’ve got dew forming on the reflector. Now, a clean reflector isn’t just about looking pretty. It’s what actually pushes the heat toward you. If that mirror gets foggy or grimy, you’re losing heat. We use specific surface coatings that repel moisture, making sure that infrared beam stays tight and focused right where you need it.
The balancing act
Here’s the tricky part: if we seal the unit perfectly, we trap the heat inside. If the electronics can’t breathe, they’ll fry themselves. So, we found a middle ground. We use “labyrinth” vents. Think of them as a maze for air—they let the heat escape but make it nearly impossible for a water droplet to find its way inside. One last tip:Check your mounting brackets. If the unit tilts forward, water pools in the reflector tray and bypasses all those guards we built. Keep it level, and your quartz tubes will last a whole lot longer.
